Safeguarding Statement

The South York Multi Academy Trust (SYMAT) is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people within its family of schools. It expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.

We provide an inclusive, positive and caring environment in which our children and young people can develop their academic, social and emotional potential.

Every adult is expected to play their part in safeguarding our children and young people. Each school supports this through their offer of safeguarding and child protection awareness training. All staff in all our schools know the procedures that should be followed should they have any concerns about a student. All staff know where to go should they require some information, help and guidance.

The Trust supports each school in the following ways:

  • The Trust fully adopts the most up to date Keeping Children Safe in Education guidance.

  • As a Trust we undertake safeguarding reviews and audits on an annual basis by an independent body that scrutinises our policy and procedures.

  • The Trust is led by a Chief Executive who has ultimate responsibility for excellence in safeguarding.

  • The Trust has a Trustee with special responsibility for safeguarding.

  • Each school has its own Safeguarding Policy that details their school specific advice and

    designated safeguarding officer details.

  • Each school has a governor on its Governing Body with special responsibility for safeguarding.

Reporting Concerns

If you are concerned about the welfare of a pupil at any of our schools contact the relevant Designated Safeguarding Officer in each school. Details can be found in the Trust Policy and on each school website.

Trustees are accountable for all legal obligations regarding safeguarding across the trust. Oversight is delegated by the Board of Trustees, to the SYMAT Safeguarding Trustee (Anooj Kotecha). Any issues related to safeguarding children will be discussed with this board as required.

Legal, Financial and Statutory Information

The Academies Financial Handbook includes a requirement for academy trusts to publish financial statements for the last two years. There is also a requirement to publish the relevant business and pecuniary interests of members, trustees and local governors.

Trade Union Facility Time

During the period the Trust had no employees who were relevant paid Trade Union officials. To provide employees who are members of Trade Unions with access to union representation, the Trust procured outsourced services from City of York Council at a cost of £ 9,012

Key Dates for Secondary School Admissions in September 2023

  • 12th September 2022 – Applications open
  • 31st October 2022 – Deadline for applications
  • 1st March 2023 or the next working day – National Offer Day
  • 31st March 2023 – Appeal forms to be returned
  • May-July 2023 – Admission appeals heard
  • September 2023 – Applications for the 2024 entry into Year 7 expected to open

Published Admissions Numbers

The Published Admission Number (PAN) is the number of pupils it is intended to admit into the first year group of school. This number differs for each school and for 2024 – 2025 these PANs are:

  • for Archbishop of York’s CE Junior School (Year 3), 60 places
  • for Bishopthorpe Infants (Reception), 50 places
  • for Dunnington CE Primary School (Reception), 30 places
  • for Escrick Primary School (Reception)
  • for Fulford School (Year 7), 300 places
  • for Fulford School (Year 12), 35 places
  • for Wheldrake with Thorganby CE Primary School (Reception), 30 places
